What are some good foods for getting calcium if i cant eat dairy??
Has anyone tried the lactaid products--like the milk?
If so, does the milk taste as good as regular milk?

Thank you!

I have tried the Lactaid products. I can not tell the difference and neither can my husband in the taste. I know that I feel better then if I drink regular milk. Also, my mother would take the Dairy Ease tablets and still be able to eat and drink regular dairy products.

you can still eat dairy, just take some lactaid before. The reason you a re lactose intolerant is because your body lacks enough of the enzyme lactase. So you can not break down the protein in the dairy. Lactaid is a supplemental lactase. It works well. Give it a shot. If not you can use corral calcium, as long as you have no allergies to shellfish.

I actually found out the same thing recently.
I switched to Soy milk and I love it.
The chocolate is delicious, and the original I can use on cereal.
There are soy based ice creams...
But for my patients I recommend the lactaid supplements that you can take and then actually drink real milk. Ask your pharmacist to help you find them if you really want regular milk and ice cream. The supplements work really well on my peds patients...

i'm lactose intolerant, but it doesn't stop me because i love dairy products way too much. it gives me really bad (and extra smelly) gas. i consume dairy only around family and close friends because i know they understand my plight, or in the privacy of my home. you may want to try taking the lactaid pills before consuming dairy...they work but aren't cheap.
