I am not sure about lions and tigers - but I have heard of cats bred with wild type cats...here is a link to those "breeds" - Bengel, African Servel, and Savannah cat.
The definition of a species does not explain this...you can breed horses and donkeys = sterile mule; breed alpacas and llamas...so this criteria is not a good definition of a "species"

well, first of all, domesticated cats are descended from the european wlidcat, its not the same as breeding a wolf and dog. lions and tigers are from the genus panthera, while domestic ones are of the felid category like a cougar. and a large wild cat would look to a domesticated one as prey, not as a mate.

The difference in genitalia size makes it impossible a tiny male housecat penis wouldn't penetrate a huge tiger vagina and vice versa.

Matahari contradicted herself. She first said "no" which plainly means it's not possible. However, she then said the offspring might be sterile. This technically means "yes" they might be able to reproduce and form sterile offspring. So this leads me to believe the answer to the question is "yes".
And franko_joe - the original question did, in fact, say "artifically inseminate" in the first place. So thus the question does make sense.
