I think that War is a terrible terrible thing, but absolutely necessary... I think that it was one of the many natural ways of preventing overpopulation. I think that war along with huge epedemics and other things are horrendous but the world would be worse off without them... The rate at which humans grow is exponential and the only way to keep the world going is to get rid of them in mass quantities... I also think that there should be a limit to the amount of children a family should have... so long as this does not lead to the issue of males being better causing females to die (or perhaps the other way round) it is a very good idea. I mean having 15 children is all jolly and good, but what about the thousands that need to be adopted??? I dunno.. what do you think?

hahaha I have read Malthus... and yes I recognise that War will not completely stop population growth.... but it puts some sorta check on the amount of poeople... imagine if all the people in WWII had lived... yeah we'd be in a lot of trouble! (no offense to anyone who is a veteran or relative of one) but just imagine how many more people would be in the world

Yes, there SHOULD be a legal limit on the number of kids a couple can have. To their credit, only the Chinese have enacted such laws. Since the more kids a couple has puts a greater burden on society and the environment, those who have kids should pay MUCH higher taxes than those who do not. THAT would be a great incentive!

Go and read Malthus...he had the overpopulation thing figured out a long time ago. Recent thinkers have speculated that overpopulation will indeed lead to wars in the future as resources diminish and demand grows out of control. This makes sense because this is what wars have always been about: acquiring more resources for one's own nation. James Burke (& Robert Ornstein) wrote about some of this in their book "The Axemaker's Gift", and Burke did a wonderful series for the BBC called "After the Warming"--which is available on DVD and VHS. Really, you should get the DVD and watch this, and then go read the book. It's very enlightening.

You can't keep population in check with conventional warfare. Countries fight wars for hundreds of years and still increase in population. It would have to be a total nuclear war to put a dent in population growth.

I don't think having war to end overpopulation is the answer.
