It could be that when you were a small child you were frightened by a tiny pea sized object that you mistook for a giant boulder that you mistook for its wrong weight that was the 500lbs that you owed your uncle when the pea sized object fell on the pea errr then if you saw the boulder errrr oh if you, oh screw it lets all go insane !

Because rather than experience each new thing as it comes, you are more comfortable relying upon your past experiences to quickly assess new situations. You undoubtedly feel like you are being very smart by relying upon past data, so when you find facts that run contrary to your anticipated assumptions it throws your system off kilter.
