Don't lose any sleep over it - the person in question probably doesn't like to read (or maybe even can't). The Harry Potter books are some of the best in recent history. But not everyone is the reading type, so they make fun of those who are, because it makes them feel better.

I never was interested in Harry Poter and witch craft, but just because I don't like it doesn't mean I hate everyone that does. I don't care as long as they are good people or nice I am still frinds with them. If someone doesn't like you just because you like Harry Potter, well they are not going to have many friends because a lot of people love Harry Potter. You have to look beyond "what kind of books someone reads. I personally think Harry Potter is a waste of time. I don't get into that kind of stuff but some people love it. I say all that to say, "It really doesn't matter.

I have no idea. The Harry Potter series is very well done. J. K. Rowling has created and entire shadow world, and that is no mean feat. I applaud her for this and also for tuning an entire generation on to reading. By the way, I am 34 years old and have read the entire series several times and seen the movies (not as good) more than once each. My wife of 33 years is currently reading the sixth book (she reads the whole series each time) for the fourth or fifth time. I think they are wonderfully fun. I am quite looking forward to the next book.
May God bless and keep you.

A lot of hardcore fantasy fans (including myself) just have a problem with Harry Potter because of how childish it can be sometimes. A lot of us are used to having people dying off left and right and the main characters having a heck of a hard time. I've read the first and second books and I just can't stand the happy-go-luckiness in certain parts. Doesn't mean they are bad books, just not what some people are into.

My family and I all enjoy the books, I'm 33 with 2 kids in their early teens. The popularity does grate on those not interested in the genre though, you hear it so often that your just sick of listening to the topic.
Why does everyone think harry potter is stupid?? >> taken literally.
. I've never had the impression harry was very intelligent. Lucky.. charismatic.. willful and talented sure, but he may very well qualify as stupid compared to some.
I've found that someones main character can only be as brilliant as the author is capable of making him.

My nephew doesn't like the books because in my great aunt's enthusiasm, she forced him to read the books (so did his mother by the way). Sometimes when someone is made to read something they end up not liking it. I on the other hand love the Harry Potter books and movies. I just finished listening to all the books on CD (read by Jim Dale). I would love to have the chance to read the books for myself. It is a very good series. There are a lot of books, people don't like and they will find any reason to make fun of people who like the things they don't.

You have to realize that when something gains the popularity that Harry Potter has in such a short time, that there are bound to be those who feel the need to rebel against them. Usually, those who "hate" or mock those who enjoy this popular and well written series haven't actually taken the time to read any of the book. If they have read part of the series, they aren't open minded enough to get past the "it's popular" issue.

I don't know to explain it but it's just stupid and the movies are even worse the actors are growing older so the rating is going up what' going to happen when they are 18 or 20 is it going to become a rated R movie see it's just stupid. If you want to read a good book read Around The World In 80 Days by Jules Verne it's a classic and really any book by Jules Verne is good or read Far North by Will Hobbs another good book by a good author.

For many, the Harry Potter books are just pure nonsense, to others they represent pure evil and sin, and yet to others they are pure entertainment. The problem is, whatever your view is of the novels, you feel strongly about your opinion to the point that any other must be incredibly incorrect. I, like you, enjoy the books. I see them for fictional books for entertainment, like Tom Sawyer or Star Wars. As to why some people dislike the books to the point of insanity, I have not a clue to the answer. Perhaps they hated book reports as a child, or maybe fiction is a waste of time. They may see the books as heresy, a blasphemy that should be ridiculed and burned. I'm sure they have their reasons for disliking the books, as we have reasons for liking them. It's too bad they can't let someone simply enjoy them without trying to ruin it.

Some honestly don't like the books. Nothing is for everyone, and the Potter series is no exception.
But many of those you've probably encountered on the Internet are simply insecure. They feel it's safer to disparage something and appear "above such things" than be criticized for admiring something others might call "childish." It's a weakness.
Pay no attention to the disparagers. There are plenty of people (of all ages) who enjoy and admire the books. Concentrate on them.
