Make baby back ribs, baby corn, baby cup cakes and color them pink and blue . Buy the first baby an outfit that says I am the big Brother or Sister.
Ways to tell Family & Friends
Pull out a baby name book at a gathering and just start asking what people think of different names
Take a photo of you and DH holding a sign saying “We’re having a baby!” and send it out
Get silver fortune cookies from Lenox (or real ones) and put your own fortunes inside: “You will be a grandma”, etc.
Take a group photo of everyone at a gathering…instead of saying “Say cheese!”, say, “Say ___ is pregnant!” and get a photo of everyone’s reaction (or, say, “Say January 4th!” or whatever the due date is, and when they ask why, don’t say anything…take a photo as it dawns on them)
Wear a T-shirt from franklypregnant.com
Put a framed poem or “Baby _________ due EDD” at the bottom of a huge box, fill it with pink and blue balloons, and wrap it up as a gift for the new grandparents.
Go to one of those places where you make your own pottery, and paint plates that say “Congratulations, Grandma/pa!” on them. Serve your parents dinner on their special plates.
Give out chocolates with personalized wrappers announcing the big news: www.saywhatchocolates.com
Bring a dish to a family gathering with “We’re having a baby!” printed on it…as the food gets eaten, see who notices the message that appeared!
Set up the nursery and then invite them over. Give them a “tour” (if the house isn’t new, tell them you’ve added/changed a few things) and save the nursery for last. Open the door and say, “And this is the baby’s room!”

Membership Has Its Privileges
Go out to dinner and have the waiter announce your pregnancy as one of the “specials.” Or, have the waiter bring out pickles & ice cream for dessert and put it in front of you.
If recently married, show your wedding album/scrapbook…on the last page, put the +HPT date, a photo of the HPT, and the words “to be continued…” Wait for them to get there!
Put an “I’m the big brother/sister” shirt on your first child, pet, etc.
Send the grandparents pink/blue flowers on behalf of the baby, with a card that says “See you in ___!”
Frame the first ultrasound
Send/hand out “Birthday Party” invitations, with the new baby’s name and EDD, the hospital where he/she will be born, and a note saying that he/she has a lot of growing to do between now and then!
Make a pretend movie ad: “Baby ____, Coming to a Crib Near You on (EDD)!” List you and DH as the producers.
Bring cupcakes with pink/blue icing to a gathering
Make a compilation CD of songs with “Baby” in the title and give it as a gift, or play it while in the car with them. See if they notice the theme!
Go to www.wheeloffortune.com and make a puzzle with the question “Guess what?” and the answer “____________ is pregnant!”
Go “trick or treating” at relatives’ houses for Halloween, dressed as a very pregnant mom (pillows under your shirt) and an excited dad with a video camera (taping their reactions)
For New Year’s Eve, write a “prediction” about each person for the New Year, and put it inside a balloon (“You will become an aunt.” “You will become a grandmother.” etc.). Blow them all up, with the one for you saying you’ll have a baby on EDD, and then have each person pop their balloon at midnight. Pop yours last and read it aloud when everyone has the idea.
Get one of those picture frames where you can record a 10-second message, or make a Build-a-Bear with a voice box, and record the baby’s heartbeat. Give them the frame with “Baby _______ due ___” printed inside, or the bear in a bag with tissue paper.
On Thanksgiving, have everyone go around the table and say what they’re thankful for. When it’s your turn, say you’re thankful for the new baby. Or, offer to say grace and include the baby in the prayer.
For Thanksgiving, make a card with the “Top 5 Things to be Thankful for This Year.” Put the first 4 on the outside, and then list the news as #1 on the inside (with an ultrasound photo, if you have one)
For Christmas, sneak a tiny pink/blue stocking onto the mantle along with everyone else’s, and wait for someone to notice
Send out Christmas cards and sign them with both of your names + Baby Lastname (due EDD)
Give your parents a wall calendar as one of their gifts. After they open it, tell them to "Check out (EDD month)" and have your due date already written in for them.
Get your parents a “grandparents” ornament for their tree as one of their gifts
Send out cards from www.fetalgreetings.com
Give your parents a wrapped video tape of the ultrasound, or of you and DH saying, "Congratulations--you're going to be grandparents!"
On Christmas Day, someone’s b-day, etc. say you’re going to get their present, then walk back in with a big bow around your belly
www.preggersnproud.com makes a T-shirt that says, "Jingle belly, jingle belly, baby on the way!" Wear this to a family gathering for Christmas.
At your parents' house, sneak a tiny stocking up over the fireplace with everyone else's. When someone finally notices, say it's for the baby.
Make a website with a photo slide show of you and DH (ending with an u/s photo or the big announcement), and send everyone a link to it
For Easter:
· Make them an Easter basket with all pink and blue plastic eggs. Fill them with chocolates from www.colorworks.com or www.saywhatchocolates.com, personalized with your big news as the message. Or, fill them all with regular candy except one, in which you can put the baby poem or a pacifier.
· There’s an Easter Baby/Dough Baby recipe that you can find online—it’s a traditional Italian Easter cookie (that doesn’t look anything like a baby, btw). Make them for them and tell them what they are.
Mock Mastercard commercial on a greeting card (alter it to fit your needs/situation)
Outside: Card: $2
Postage: 34c
Film developing: $8
Inside: Telling you there are 3 people in this picture... priceless. (Put a pic of you and DH there, maybe holding a sign that says “Baby Lastname, due EDD” or “Congratulations—you’re going to be a grandma/pa!”)
Frame this poem:
I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come (month due),
That’s when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandson or grandaughter;
I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So what I have to give you now,
Is a wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family.
