I live in LA and there is no way on this earth I could afford to live on that type of pay. You are talking about a person with a degree correct??? I would take those librarian skills and try finding a job at a Law Library for a large practice. I have a friend who makes $55,000 a year doing that. The personal stress is much higher but life with a little extra money makes stress more endurable.

Unfortunately, librarians, especially at small public libraries, don't make a wage anywhere near what they're worth - the libraries just don't have the money, even when they'd like to pay them more. The money libraries receive from the government, both federal, state and local, is shamefully low. And there's a limit to how much small groups of volunteers can fundraise - and frankly, should volunteers have to fundraise to get money to support public services? They do.......
Think about that the next time you use library services - or vote on a levy or referendum. Libraries don't get books or utilities free, and do have to pay salaries even though they're unreasonably low.

Yes, I could. But there's other things I want to own and do...that's why I choose to not be a librarian at the DeWitt Public Library.

Sure, if I lived in Oklahoma City by myself, or lived there with a family and received food stamps with my paycheck to feed them.
Any other major city in the U.S.?
Not possible, unless living out of your car is okay for you.
I don't know what the cost of living is like in Michigan, but no one with that amount of responsibility should have to work for such low wages.
Checking the salary wizard, the expected salary for a typical Librarian in Dewitt, MI is minimum $45,114 a year. That's $21.69 per hour!! That person needs to renegotiate their salary!

It all depends on your expenses and where you live. Your net income would be around 1,193.00 depending on taxes and other things that would be taken out of your check. So if that sounds good to you, then I'm sure that you could live off of it.

that's because they already have their husband's making six figure incomes or they're semi-retired already so they're not desparate for money.
