I've worked in a glass plant, a steel mill, and I've poured asphalt. None of these are good jobs when it's hot. The glass plant was always forty to fifty degrees hotter than whatever it was outside, so if it's a hundred degrees outside, you get the picture. And twelve hour days on a seven-day swing-shift to boot.

But they all beat ice-fishing during a heat wave. A guy could drown.

Laying asphalt...how awful.

Also, even though it's an inside job, most warehouses have poor air conditioning systems and it's nearly impossible to cool huge industrial buildings. So, in the extreme heat, I'd want to stay as far away from a factory job as possible.

I would think the worst job to have during an heat wave is laying tar.

Crawling into tiny spaces in an attic to install cable wires. You'd be surprised at how many people die from heat stroke while doing this, especially in places like Florida. A friend of a friend died this way, he was 29 and in good shape too.

I would say anything in construction - roofers, etc.. road crews which also have the danger of being it by people who refuse to slow down , airline baggage handlers are all especially hard hit due to the weather right now

Construction work, roofing, pretty much anything outside. Also, I know a couple who work in factories that aren't air conditioned. They can take alot of breaks & there are places that are cooler than others, but it's still miserable.
