Well it may not always happen on purpose but it will always have a purpose. I believe that people learn from all mistakes so if something bad in life happens the purpose for that is learning from the mistake or knowing you have to stay away from that situation. As for those good things that happen, do they really ned a purpose? If they are good, do you honestly want to know why that good thing happened to you or do you just want to go ahead and go with it?

99.99% coincidence- but like most things in life there are lessons to be learned from everything. Don't try to see everything that happened as being for a reason so much as a learning opportunity or metaphor that points to a larger life lesson.
God (or whatever power moves the world) would be a terrible, evil force if everything in life was by design. He would be intentionally killing millions of people each year just to teach some of us a good lesson. How crazy would that be?

In my life, I know the following applies (even though at the time of an event, it may not yet have been revealed to me how it applies)
"All things work together for them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose."
ALL Things. This gives me great comfort. I hope you too are called according to His purpose for your life.

Just because it's a coincidence doesn't mean that it doesn't have a purpose.

A little of both. I believe in Fate (more Kharma than fate) and Chance. Both have a strong effect on a person's life, but neither one is really dominant.

i think that people often don't even stop to ask the question you asked until something bad happens to them. in other words, we tend to focus on the bad when it happens (as in, "whyyyy god, why me?!") and not remember or appreciate the good when it happens.
but i think the answer to your question is both (or sometimes neither), depending.
