actually, it seems to be happening.
Right now, in America, it is 100+ degrees (Farenheit) from the Gulf all the way to (and probably beyond, but I don't get reports about this) the Canadian border and has been for the past month or so.
This wouldn't be completely unusual in and of itself, if it weren't so widespread and long lasting.
As to turning into a big ice ball:
As the globe warms, the ice caps melt. This cools the water globally and may, eventually, instigate another ice age as the water cools enough that summers can't get hot enough to melt the winter snows completely.
I'm not sure exactly, but I believe there is archaelogical evidence that something similar has happened in the past, although this time, humans have contributed quite a bit and may have thrown everything off kilter.

No. It took millions of years for the ice age period end and there wasn't any pollution or so called global warming. The earth is just changing somewhat like it has over millions of years so don't get too caught up in all of the chicken littles who say the sky is falling.
The same people in the 70's said that we would not have any oil by the year 1990's and that didn't happen and is no where near happening.
