Moon cycles are called Lunations.
New Moon - when the transiting Sun and Moon are conjunct - a good time to start a new project as the Moon will be waxing (increasing in size). It is a time of internalization and focusing on the self.
Full Moon - when the transiting Sun and Moon are in opposition to one another - a good time to complete a project as the Moon will soon begin waning (decreasing in size). It is a time of concentrating on external events and events beyond your control.

The moon is very powerful, it controls the ocean's tides and a woman's periods. And during Full Moons and New Moons, people and animals are affected.

Well the moon is really really powerfull. I dont know why it is like that. There are signs that something big is going to happen, the way the moon is now might just be another sign.
