Its not uncommon for older people to play teenagers, Michael J Fox played one till he was almost 30. If you look young it is useful in two ways 1) the show doesnt have to work around child labor laws, children can only work for a certain amount of hours a day. and 2) you're probably more likely to keep working for longer by being able to hold those roles for longer.
