what i'm saying is, even outdoors, if you encounter flies flying around on your porch, or above your lawn, they invariably fly around making right and left turns, getting nowhere.

Cool that u noticed. On second thought, ever seen flies humping? I have. They do it like humans.

Flies can fly backwards. When you aim with a fly swatter go a little behind rather than a little ahead of them (Whack!) another good fly. The point is that flies are very maneuverable and likely react to what they see with their segmented eyes. They also have sponge-like hairy feet that are good at picking up lots of germs from the grossest items they land on, vomit up what they eat (onto your sandwich?) and deficate tiny specks before departing. Ugh! Where's that swatter?

They make sharp turns to confuse possible predators.
