Correct me if I am wrong, but most people join a party because they have a few issues they hold very dear to and find that party upholds those issues. However, with the vast scope of issues in the political arena it doesn't seem likely that anyone first drew an opinion of each issue and then found that it was exactly aligned with the party. Consider if before you knew any party line on any issue, if you were presented the top 100 issues today and had to pick your view before knowing how your party felt...do you think anyone in the party would be 100% in line with the party view? Its seems logical that even in you chose the majority of your party views, that 100% is highly unlikely.

What do you think? Are the majority of the party members sheep in reference to the bulk of the issues?

Think about it like a see-saw. If the person on one side moves further out, the person on the other side needs to move out too, to keep the "balance". That's the way politics works. Both parties are out of touch with "the middle", also known as "We The People".

u seam not to understand . the people in the party establish what they want in the platform. Granted all may not agree with all things. The republicans have drifted some like about the price of oil but the democrats are still future in the wrong direction. The democrats think that because the people are so dissatisfied with how the presidents people have done to badmouth the president doesn't mean u have a better solution. The democrats are painting them selves as so incompetent they wouldn't qualify foe dog catcher. The democrats have done nothing to raise my confidence in them and I am very mad that the republicans cant stop the crossing of the border but if I look at the democrats they would eliminate the border. what do u not understand close the border even if u need to shoot some stupids.

Yes, you are totally right. I think a significant number of American people are in the middle, as you say, and are not being represented by either party. That's why some people say they are going to choose the lesser of two evils when they vote. That is rather sad, when we can't wholeheartedly believe in anyone that is supposed to be representing us. I think the worst trap we can fall into is voting along party lines, or defending everything that a representative of a certain party says. We need to use our heads, think for ourselves, like our forefathers did. For example, am I going to claim to be Republican because I am a Christian? Most people would think so, but I am not fooled by what politicians claim to be. It's about power and greed for them, so I tend to be for whoever seems to want to fix the issues that affect humanity- here at home. Hello, it's we the people, the forgotten ones, the hardworking ones, most of whom don't have adequate healthcare like we used to, or adequate public school educations for our children in many areas, among other things. I think some of our past leaders cared about these things, but something about the system (the fact that special interest groups with the most contributions to put a politician into power) prevents anything noble from happening in regard to the needs of the people. I think whatever a person's individual beliefs are, we need to at least not be confused by these people in power. They will continue to force their will on us-they tell us only what they want us to hear and continue to do as they please with our tax dollars. Maybe we should wake up and do something.

actually, i think you make a good party.

i am a member of a political party; i agree with the "platform" of the party about 90 % of the time.

If you took any one politician of my party, i agree with them 60 or 70 percent of the time.

To me, most (certainly not all) of the issues that have been hot buttons for the parties lately have nothing to do with things i care about. I think they are just wasting time on provocative issues ( that get them a few seconds on the news shows) because they don't have a clue what to do about the difficult complex issues that the SHOULD be workign on..

cable tv news programs, the print media, radio, the internet, have all helped polarize US politics. there is too much to lose by taking the middle ground in politics today; the loudest voice has replaced the voice of reason!

People tend to become very stubborn when it comes to political issues because it's such a passionate subject. I, however, do not follow politics so I can't help you with this one. Sorry.

Things get highly polarized, so if you are not "A", then you are "B".

There is no middle ground anymore for compromise (as we will NOT compromise our ideals) or dialogue (and since we are RIGHT, there is nothing to be said).
