First, choose a career you would like to pursue.
Second, research about that career and make sure you really like it. For example, you might want to check the job description in detail, working conditions, salary expectations, advancement opportunities and job outlook.
Third, Check whether education for that career is offered in University or at a community college.
Fourth, search the name of Universities or Community Colleges in the area you are interested in.
Fifth, check whether those institutions offer your program of choice.
Sixth, Check the general academic requirements and other requirements and see if you meet them.
Seventh, If you don't meet the requirements due to academic reasons, check for the program at institutions at other areas.
Or if your marks are realistically too low for the program anywhere, either realize that you might need to upgrade your marks or change your plans.
Eight, If you meet the reqiurements, read How to apply section of the institute's website or contact them via e-mail or telephone.
BTW, if you can, visit career guidance counsellors or school counsellors, they can really get you started. Also, keep talking to your friends and family about what you have in mind and how to pursue it.
Hope this helps.

If you've narrowed the choice down to just a few it can still be really hard. I know people who eventually plumped for one because they liked the picture of the lady on a bike on the prospectus, or like the smell of the prospectus, or saw a hot girl at the open day. Its not bad to make big decisions so flippantly, I do it all the time.

If you go to the link in my sources box there ia a quiz, based on your data, that can give you a list of college/university matches. They will be schools that match your gpa, living preferences, extra involvements, etc. However, you have to keep in mind want you want. Do you want to live close to home or do some traveling? Urban or rural area? It just depends on what you want and what is plausible.

It all depends on what you want to do. Though I will say DON'T pick a school just because your friends are going there.
If you do pick a school and decide you don't like it you can always transfer, so don't think you're completely stuck in the same place the whole time.
