People seem to be caught up in the underground scene more and more. And I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the music, I think that just because it's not "mainstream" it's better. But why do people have these perceptions?

LOL, I was wondering that same thing, because when they say oh this new band is totally cool, and then that new band hits it big they all of the sudden lose interest in it? It's weird, but I think it is kind of a rebellion against uniformism. They just want to stick out and be different but everyone has done the hair color, the tattoos or whatever so they go to outside sources such as the bands the like to make a point? Not sure, but I think people need to have purpose or substance behind opinions.

Mainstream music is simply doing what is popular at the time because they are all about money money money... Now, there is nothing wrong with making money BUT when it comes to music, I want to hear some original art... Music is art and big corporation has come on the scene and kept many artists with true talent from blossoming because it's "not what's in right now" (aka pop)... if you take time to check out underground music, you see many artists that are doing what they want and don't have too many worries about selling a million copies and what mainstream wants to hear (aka from the heart, real music)... other than that, it's simply comes down to personal flavor/taste of the individual...

i don't enjoy the fact that songs are played on the radio

there are a ton of good bands, and then suddenly, they're all over the radio and all over MTV/VH1. once that happens, everyone knows the songs, everyone sings them

it just gets annoying

that's why i listen to underground bands cuz i know they wont be famous for a long time (or even at all). but the quality of music is still the same

WHAT?! Underground music is the best. If it's any good it soon becomes mainstream. So I don't know what your talking about.

theres only so many mainstream acts
look at britney spears -christina aguilera -
Christina Milan Jessica Simpson etc etc - they are a little different
but basically they are all the same act
get a young girl - dress her all slutty
make a poppy dance beat for her to sing over
same sh-t nothing original
underground music allows for a lot more freedom fror the artist

It is because mainstream music is often written, changed, and made more poppy by the label company to make it appeal to a larger crowd...

Actually, my friend, it has ALOT to do with the music. They all sound the same! Same regurgitated drum beats and riffs over and over again. Where's the diversity? And it pisses me off seeing the guys of fall out boy everywhere, and in everyone's music videos. Just garbage.

People will do anything and everything to act as if they are too good for society and they want to be different so they will not allow themselves to blend in with the crowd. They are just being difficult and insecure.

Because some people, like myself, don't like bands that 'just happen to be' mainstream. It's not a choice. I just generally don't like the popular stuff.
