I feel ya... after being in a bad car wreck and a bad motorcycle accident, both before I was 18, I'm in pretty bad shape myself. You don't have to succumb to a life of pain though. Depending on the type of medical care you can afford or have access to, modern medicine is growing by leaps and bounds and may offer you some long-term comfort. My grandmother has actually had both of her knees replaced and after rehabilitation has completely been relieved of all pain and difficulty walking that she had before the surgeries.
There is hope. Get as many "second opinions" as you can from your docs, and don't give up.

Ok this may not be the best answer but you will find it the most useful as you progress in life.
I had knee problems which I ignored at your age. A few years later I was taking various anti-infllammatory drugs to keep the pain and discomfort under control.
During this process I began to limp. I still grinned and beared the pain and discomfort.
To shorten this story...the end is this. My long-term limping caused my hip to wear out. Last winter I had to have a hip replaced. The cartilege was totally worn away on the right side. I was actually 3/4" shorter on my right side. Part of me that took years to wear down.
Bottom line, get the knee fixed. Don't ignore it. Do it soon.,

Medical advancements are being made every day. I am 36 and have bad knees myself! See your doctor for the best pain medicine. Make sure you see a pain specialist if that doesn't help.
It's good that you know what you know now becasue you can start taking better care of your knees and slow donw the process a bit.
You may be able to get new knees if you are a good candidate and spend your 70s golfing all day.
Hang in there buddy! Take it slow!

Well, there is always total knee replacement...perhaps you should think about doing some volunteer services with amputees and that might just change your mind about how you feel. If all we focus on is our own pain, we turn inwards and can be depressed. Instead, begin a gratitude journal. Your young, relatively healthy----you have a wonderful life to look toward. I can think of so many situations that are far worse than what you are discribing.
You might also speak with your primary doctor about clinical depression---sometimes a bit of medication can do wonders.

Hey, I'm 24 with shot knees. Active lifestyle means injury-prone. But a lot of damage can be fixed with the work of a good physiotherapist and the right exercises.
Talk to your doc, see what he thinks, and go along that route.
Yes, my knees are bloody killing me somedays, but after another 2 months or so, I should be back to right where I was before they went out on me.

you should rely on modern medicine. There are always advancements that can help you. I'm in the same boat you are in, just with a different condition. Go to friends and family for support. Find hobbies that you enjoy and someone that you love that you can share your life with. Nothing is bad enough to let you lay around and let life pass you by.
