my computer can only hold 256mb and i have 96mb. what do i need to know when i buy a new ram chip?

go to www.crucial.com. There you can select your make and model and it will tell you what works in your machine. They even have good prices to buy dirrect from them.

If your computer can take only 256MB of memory, then you definitely need a new computer! For this computer that old, it's not worth the money to upgrade since it's so cheap to just get a brand new one.

Yeah, you need the right kind for your motherboard, there are several types out there that won't fit and few the will. It is the trickiest upgrade out there probably to get right if you don't know exactly what you need.

It depends on the computer. Some computers say you need to install it in pairs. I go to http://www.crucial.com because they have an advisor that tells you exactly what you need.
