Absolutely. When your body becomes completely dependant on a chemical substance, your survival depends on it. You would have to be completely and totally dependent on a drug in order to die from stopping cold, but it is possible.

If you know someone who is heavily addicted to heroin or any other illegal substance, you should try to get them checked into a clinic immediately. Trained professionals can help her/him much better than you or any stranger on the internet.

They once thought this was true, that quiting a heavy heroin habit cold turkey would be such a strain for your body that it would die, this explainds the popularity in methadone clinics of the past. They now know that this is not true, although very painful you cannot not die from it. The process of quitting heroin actually leaves your body quit healthy, as every cell in your body is dependent on heroin when you stop taking every cell in your body will eventualy die and be regenerated healthy and non dependent. Though the process is excrutiating, it will not kill you. Also for those that cannot quit, there is one known cure called apomorphine which when injected at base of the spinal cord will cause the body to refresh its blood and rejuvinate its cells, without the users consent, i.e. it forces the user to quit. It used to actually be used as a vomit inducer as it causes the body to expel most fluids, until they discovered its potential as a strong "cure" for addiction.

Narcotics Anonymous just like anything else will only help if you want help. There are many addicts with long term recovery from drug addiction in NA myself include (19 years). Treatment is something to consider but it is a short-term fix & is a safe place to detox.

Check out www.na.org, to see if there is any local NA meetings in your area.

You're going to need help & support if you're trying to kick heroin. Please stay away from Narcanon, though, because it's really just a front for Scientology. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) doesn't work for many people & has a high relapse rate.

I'd recommend that you see your doctor right away, or check out this link:

If you think no one cares about you, think again. I wouldn't keep answering your questions if I didn't.
