air condition works and so does the heater but no matter what setting I use, the air only comes out on the top near the windshield and not the vent that blows the air directly to you. Is it possible that by control panel has gone out and how can I check to see if it is still functional. thanks all.

Vaccum leak. There's a little football shaped canister behind the bumper. Find it and replace it and your probelm will be solved. Jeg's has steel one's for older 50's chevy's for about $15 and with a fitting from the parts store can be adapted to your vehicle.

duct to dash has been knocked off thats why only going to topand the damper door might be broke

you probably knocked the duct work loose in the dash.
