600-50= 2x
x=275 = boys
girls = 275 + 50 = 325

x + 50 = girls

600= x + (50 + x)
600= 2x + 50
600- 50 = 2x
550 = 2x
550/2 = x
275 = x

let us suppose number of boys = x
therefore number of girls=x+50
but total number of students=600
x+x+50=600
2x=600-50
2x=550
x=275
number of boys=275
