im 6 weeks pregnant, having light menstrual cramping, and moderate spotting. I dont mean to be graphic but the spotting started as a milky pink/brown discharge. But today it has been more red/brown but not milky...more like menstrual bleeding that you get toward the end of ur cycle. I have been relaxing as much as possible. I had an ultrasound last friday and they said that i am okay and the baby is exactly where its supposed to be. I am so scared that I am going to lose the baby. This is my first pregnancy so im not sure what to expect. I know some spotting is normal, im just not sure how much is normal. Is there anything I can do to prevent and lessen the spotting? Thanks so much for your responses....They have been very comforting and helpful.

This might sound harsh but your body might be ridding itself of an "unwarranted" embryo. As long as the ultrasound showed baby's heartbeat and doctor says all is okay then relax... it probably is really ok. Spotting is normal for some women and it may continue throughout your entire pregnancy. Just keep calm, relax and continue to see your doctor regularly. If youo happen to have a sudden "gush" of bright red blood, then off to the ER you go! Good luck!!

Some spotting is normal after a pap or an exam- which it sounds like you had last week. Some women spot thoughout their pregnancy. I would watch the discharge- Brown tones are a better sign- they are more than likely "old blood." If you are experiencing bright red discharge and or have ANY cramping call or go to the dr ASAP as these could be signs of something serious. Continue to take it easy for a bit- no heavy lifting or any straining. The spotting should slow or stop in a day or so.
I spotted during my preg and am a mother of a happy, heathy 2 1/2 year old. My close freiend also spotted though her first trimester- her baby is fine as well. As in any case, when you are nervous or unsure of a situaion call or visit your dr- they can reassure you. My dr got to know me very well during my pregnancy!!! :) Best of luck to you and congrats!!

From experience, the spotting is said to occur when the fetus is lining itself onto the uterus. All you have to do is relax and let nature take its course. Have a great pregnancy - remember its not a sickness.

Don't freak out, but DO try to make an appointment with your OB/GYN as soon as possible. The spotting could be perfectly normal, but he or she is the ONLY one qualified to tell you that. Get it checked out!!
