is it possible to recover photos that were lost when we tried to transfer to XP from Windows ME.Have seen companies that offer to recover deleted files .

If you "Re-Formatted" your hard drive it may be tricky. Did you "uninstall" ME then Install XP?
If you didn't "write" over the picture files and they are .jpeg or some other graphic/photo format then Stuart is right.
If you did "write" over your picture files, it's going to be hard to get them back.

Click START, then SEARCH, the FOR FILES OR FOLDERS. On the left side, click ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. Where it says 'all or part of the file name', type in *.jpg (that should be asterisk dot jpg) and click SEARCH. All of the jpeg pictures on your computer will show up. (You can go to VIEW up at the top of the Search page and choose THUMBNAILS so you can see what each file is.) If that's not it, repeat the process, but type in *.bmp next time and saearch on that.

maybe.. but very unlikely if it has been too long -even with file recovery programs
