I love both but The Who is one of my all-time favorite bands. I have seen The Who twice and I will be seeing both Tom Petty and The WHo this late summer. I can't wait!

I like Tom Petty, but of my three all-time favourite musical acts, the only one i never got to see was The Who (the other two being Pink Floyd (1987) and Stevie Ray Vaughan (1990)). I would see The Who *any* chance i got. I hope i still have a chance, someday.....

(The following is a photo of my license plate that i just took a few minutes ago, just for you. Ok, it's not currently attached to a *car*.....but it will be again before too long. This should give you some idea just how much i love this band.)

The Who is an extremely underrated band. The radio stations' choice of songs that The Who plays is terrible. Between playing "Bargain", "Won't Get Fooled Again", and "Who Are You" a whole bunch, it puts off a terrible impression. When you listen to the album "Live At Leeds" and "Quadrophenia", you will get what is possibly the greatest four musicians of all time. When you break it down, Keith Moon is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time (may he rest in peace), John Entwhistle IS the greatest bassist of all time (also rest in peace), Pete Townshend is one of the greatest lyricists and also an aggressive guitarist, and Roger Daltrey's singing is amazing. The album Quadrophenia is their best and should be played on the radio, seeing as how the only song played from the album is an edited version of "Love, Reign O'er Me". Their first albums sound, to most people, like The Beatles, when in reality they are The Beatles, except a lot more musical. Their concept albums are also some of the greatest, "Tommy" tells a great story and so does "Quadrophenia". Overall, they are the most aggressive rock band of all time.

Tom Petty I can't speak as intelligently about, but i can vouch for his lyrics, which are amazing, and his work with The Travelling Wilburys justifies his accomplishments.

It should be The Who, but I just have soft spot for Tom Petty. Full Moon Fever was the ery first CD I ever bought (back when CDs first came out= yes, I am old) and I still have it and listen to it regularly.

while I do love Tom Petty,
Pete Townsend (with or without the rest of the Who) wins.
