It's an old and sorry story. Hizbollah and Hamas have routinely carried out attacks on Israel which have resulted in the death and butchery of non-combatant Israelis. Terror is their Name and Terror is their Game.
Terror in warfare is deliberately directed at the civilian population in the - so far - mistaken belief it will undermine popular support for the government against whom the terrorists are opposed. Ghastly photos of blood-drenched explosion sites with torn and wretched Israelis, including children, are too common for comment. Such is the justice and rectitude of Hizbollah and Hamas!
I acknowledge that the loss of life in the air strike in Qana on Sunday was frightful. The lives of Lebanese children are no less precious than those of Israeli children. Consider this, however: 1) the conflict is in its 2nd week and the possibility of bombing or shelling is well known in Southern Lebanon; 2) Israel has dropped millions of leaflets in that area warning inhabitants to leave as quickly as possible, especially if they live in or near a Hizbollah site; 3) Israel has placed calls to all known landline telephones and cellphones in the area to reinforce the message of danger; 4) the bombing site was targeted as a location from which rockets were fired into Israel and where additional rockets were likely to be stored; 5) the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) was not aware of the civilian presence in the building; 6) after the bombing, there were secondary explosions which means there were explosives - most likely rocket warheads - being stored in the building.
Hizbollah and Hamas weep crocodile tears when their civilians hosts are hurt: 1) they puposefully locate their assets and people in heavily populated areas to take advantage of the fact that the western powers whom they oppose will go to great lengths to avoid civilian deaths; 2) when the inevitable chaos and fog of war result in slaughter of the innocent, Hizbollah and Hamas trumpet the "hypocritical barbarism" of the State of Israel.
As a little experiment, try shifting the focus east by a country or two and substitute Al-Quada for Hizbollah and the USA for Israel. Doggone if we don't find ourselves suffering our own moral bankruptcy with an expeditionary force of vicious killers and prisoner abusers grinding the Iraqi people under their - our -bootheels. [MORON ALERT: if you're getting indignant because you think I'm insulting our service personnel, go back and re-read this answer. Slowly. Carefully.]
The fighting in both places is part of a larger conflict of great consequence for us, our children and our children's children. Israel deserves our steadfast support and Hizbollah/Hamas our forceful wrath.

As long as the world needs oil, and the Middle East has it, nations will try to play nice with the oil rich countries. Did anyone care about the slaughter of the African people by Idi Admin Dada? What about the civil war in the Congo, or the current one in Sudan? These countries don't have oil and are poor ones so they can be easily forgotten. When Kuwait was invaded though the entire world got interested. The US got involved because Iraq was a major Russian ally, and because of the oil.
The US has long been a supporter of Israel, and the US puts a lot of stock in loyalty, which Israel has shown. Israel also likes to buy American equipment making them a good customer, and one of the US’s few allies in the Middle East. The US is in a sticky situation though; they are involved in Afghanistan and Iraq so any obvious support for Israel will only increase the problems and the terrorist attacks. All that the US can do is let Israel continue its campaign, and encourage them to only attack military targets. Since the US has absolute veto power in the UN they can make sure that the UN keeps its nose out of Israel.
Of course the US wants peace, and they don’t want a repeat of the War in the 80’s. That last time that Hezbollah and Israel had “a knock down drag out” conflict Israel invaded Lebanon. The UN sent in peacekeepers lead by the US Marines. Hezbollah didn’t want to stop their little war so they drove a truck bomb into the US Marine barracks and killed most of them. That’s another reason why the US doesn’t want to get involved. The war was very unpopular so Israel doesn’t want to repeat that mistake again. Their military is ready to invade, and has captured some areas of Lebanon, but the Israeli government only wants to invade Lebanon as a last resort.
It is no coincidence that Hezbollah is attacking now. Hamas started this by kidnapping Israeli soldiers. As soon as it got too tough for Hamas to continue the fight Hezbollah took over. Hezbollah was founded by Iran in 1982 and heavily supported by Syria. Its self-proclaimed purpose “is to drive Israel into the sea.” In the 1960s Egypt and Syria wanted to do the same thing. They were both preparing for war when Israel beat them to the punch. In the Six Day War they kicked Egypt’s butt and then turned around and beat up on Syria. So Syria doesn’t want to fight Israel. President Carter helped to negotiate a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, which shows that Moslems and Jews can live next to each other. Israel has even given some of the land captured in the Six Day War back to Egypt. Iran is an enemy of the US so they want to support groups that are against Israel, one of the strongest US allies. The Shaw of Iran was a brutal dictator, like Saddam. He had to be to prevent a civil war between the Shiite and the Sunni. When the Shaw was overthrown the radical Moslems took over and kidnapped the US Embassy. This is a big violation of International Law. The US won’t forget that and the Iranians consider the US to be an enemy. A lot of the oil profits are spent to fight this war against Israel. Also the last time Iran tried to make a nuclear bomb Israel bombed the plant. That’s why the new plant is buried so deep underground that it might take an atomic bomb to destroy it. Because of all this Iran is a big enemy of Israel, but they don’t want to fight them directly; they will lose a conventional war against Israel.
As long as the situation remains the same Syria and Iran will fight their proxy war against Israel. Violence and hatred only breeds more violence and hatred so it is going to be very hard to stop the violence. Terrorists are only a small group of the population, and they hide in the general population. That’s why the Lebanonise death toll has grown so great. Israel has attacked the airport where the rockets have been flown in. They have attacked the road to Syria and attacked banks that support terrorist actions.
I don’t think that the nation of Israel should have been founded in the Middle East. The Moslems and Jews were enemies for a long time. After the fall of the Roman Empire barbarians and Moslems took over. The Moslems kicked the Israelis out and have held that land every since, despite four Crusades by the Christians to take over the area. Due to guilty feelings after WWII in 1948 Israel was founded. Back then no one knew about the oil reserves in the region. It is that oil that is keeping the fight running. The majority of the population does not want to fight Israel. But, when the terrorists attack Israel can only fight back and the terrorists use that to raise anger in the population. The terrorist groups like Hamas, the PLO, and Hezbollah also serve as support organizations for the population. The build hospitals and run schools (which teach hate against Israel and the West) and provide unemployment assistance, which makes them popular among the population. So the fighting continues.
I do think that the Jews deserve a homeland and now that they have been given one they have every right to defend it. I support that right and hate the terrorist groups. These cowards can’t win a conventional combat, and don’t have the support of the majority of the people, so they fight their struggle using terror as a weapon.

humorous how some adult males on the following see each and every thing with tunnel creative and prescient, isn't it? you do not ought to be a suicide bomber to be a terrorist. Bush and Blair terrorised their voters with lies so as that they could help the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. the U. S. terrorise always in the course of the globe in the call of democracy. The Israeli's terrorise the Palestinians with no longer merely rockets yet as well bulldozers which they run over their homes. They fence off land so as that farmers can't get entry to their olive timber which impacts their earnings and threatens the well-being of their households. They grab land on which the merely provide of water is accessible and fill their swimming pools at the same time as Palestinians bypass thirsty. They attack fishing boats to save them faraway from attainable fishing grounds even if it is somewhat to grant some area to them and their cronies at the same time as they offer the impact of being at gas reserves in the Med. you do not ought to positioned on keffiyeh to be a terrorist. Hezbollah and Hamas are elected representatives and if the West would not like it then perchance we ought to continually turn the clock lower back and enable those a lot less intense reactionaries lower back out of their nook and accept a real decision of their destiny. The longer the West keeps to discredit the factions in the middle East, the better intense will be the end result. Muslims are already being alienated global yet you need to ask your self who's somewhat waging this Jihad. State terrorism is as unforgivable as the different.

The PLO isn't directly responisble (recently) for civilian deaths. Hamas and Hezbollah are and they I condemn as much as I condemn Israel.
There is no excuse for either side to take the lives of innocent civilians.
There is also the ratio and the method of killing:
Hezbollah, in this conflict, has killed roughly 40-50 civilians by firing missles randomly into Israel
Israel, on the other hand, has killed nearly 500 civilians using targeted missles.
Neither one is right, but when you willfully target civilians, including humanitarian aid workers, you will look worse than someone who is randomly shooting.
This is why serial killers get more attention than some guy who randomly goes nuts and shoots up a mall. They are both wrong, but the serial killer gets more attention because he did the killing with direct intent.

There are so many anti-semetic people in the world, and the UN and other whimpy nations out there want to make Israel into the bad guy and the Lebanese into the victims. They are all so one sided.
Sadly, this one-sided view of Israel being the villian is what the media is putting out there, and unfortunately, people believe what they read.

I agree. The Israelis are trying to protect their citizens. Hezbollah hides behind Lebanese citizens, using them as shields. Israel brodcasts and drops leaflets in advance of its attacks so civilians can flee if they choose. Hezbollah attempts to get maximum Israeli civilian casualties. The world should condemn Hezbollah and help Israel disarm them rather than criticising Israel for accidentally harming civilians when Hezbollah hides behind them.

Because Israel is supposed to be bigger and more mature than they appear to be today. Invadeing Lebanon without warning, killing innocent people apeears more like the act of a Terrorist Organization, than the nice demeaner of a poor jewish person.
They want compassion for their holocaust but use phospherous bombs on the innocent people of Lebanon. (So, you tell me why I should give a d*mn about Israel.)
