The divorce rate in the U.S. for all couples is about 50% right now. This assumes that the average couple is only a year or two apart from one another. But the larger the age gap, the lower the divorce percentage! The reason for this is because the couple has overcome a lot more in terms of obstructions to the relationship from the dating stage than any other 'average' couple. Also, a couple with a large age gap seems to communicate better, and as a rule have more tolerance to the ups and downs that 'average' couples face.
The divorce rate, then , is actually around only 15% of all couples with more than 10 years difference between them.
