I ovulated on the 23 rd of July. Is it way too early to take a pregnancy test? I am due to start my next cycle on August 6th.

The earliest you can get a positive result on the most sensitive pregnancy tests is 7 days after ovulation (July 30 in your case). Implantation needs to occur before hCG is produced, and that generally happens between 6-12 days post ovulation, usually by 10 days after. For this reason, it makes economical sense to wait until 10-12 days after ovulation(Aug.3-5 in your case), but even then a significant percentage of women who are indeed pregnant will still show a negative result. If your period is late, test again. Your hCG levels should double every 2-3 days.

In you case...the earliest you can take it is august 2nd. I would take the first response pregnancy test. If you don't get a positive result...don't get your hopes down...only 67% have enough hormones 5 days before. I would take it again August 3, and August 4th. If you still get negative results more than likely you are not pregnant. But if you get your period and its very very light, or if you don't get one at all...I would go see your doctor for a blood test

I would say that it would be a little premature to take HPT, First Response can detect up to 5 days before your missed period. But if it was me, I would wait until the day after the missed period. ( Thats if you're like clock work!!). If you can't wait, it wouldn't kill you to test, but then you risk getting a false -, when you're actually pg. Good Luck! ( I know it sucks waiting!! Been waiting for 3 years!!!)

Some OTC tests claim to be able to detect HcG 5 days before the expected onset of your period. I would wait till the day of your expected period or one day after to be certain you're not just flushing your money down the toilet. Also, use first-morning urine for the test - higher levels of the hormone to be detected....if it's there at all.

I would wait until aug. 7th,the percentages of the early preg. tests working before your missed period are low....sometimes you dont secret enough hcg for the test to pick it up until you are a few weeks along, and taking a test too soon can be discouraging if you are ttc.

You are very likely to get false negatives. I got negatives at 9, 11, & 13 dpo. I finally got my positve at 15 dpo.

Some people do get positives very early, but I certainly wasn't one of them.
