Is the value of marriage not that adults produce children but that children produce adults?

Yeah, I think so. Can't be doing with the whole "passing on the genetic inheritance" business - but many's the time my wife and I will be out looking at all the children....by which of course I mean anyone up to about the age of 25...and we turn to each other with unbearably smug and joyful relief and say "thank you!" for the strange grown-upness that has come with marriage :oD
