PS. Good thing all our other problems are solved so we have the ability to spend this much:)

i do not feel any safer now than 2001. there are always going to be attacks either from terrorists or people who live in this country. we do not have 2 trillion dollars; we do not have the hundreds of billions to rebuild other countries and what have you.

eventually, we will let our guard down and we will be hit again

Yes, I do feel safer now than I did in the end of 2001. The attacks of September 11th had a Pearl-Harbor like effect on our anti-terrorist activities. A majority of the holes that allowed the attack to slip through (airport security, visa violations, lack of regulation for giving visas) are either plugged or are being plugged.

As for military spending, although 2 Trillion dollars sounds like a lot, over the span of 5 or 6 years, this is not that much money when compared to the GDP of the USA. Actually, when countries are ranked based on military spending compared to GDP, the United States ranks 26th; a staggeringly low number for the world's only super power.

The current GPD of the United States (2005) is over 12 Trillion dollars a year. Projected over 5-6 years, this is between 60 Trillion and 72 Trillion dollars.

Much more money needs to be spent it will be many more trillons. In addition to this war effort we also need to fucus on a few other things.

we have to end apartheid for one, and slow
down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world
hunger. But we can't ignore our social needs. either We
have to stop people from abusing the welfare system. We
have to provide food and shelter for the homeless and
oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights while
also promoting equal rights for women, but change the
abortion laws to protect the right to life, yet still
somehow maintain women's freedom of choice.
We also have to control the influx of illegal
immigrants. We have to encourage a return to traditional
moral values and curb graphic sex and violence on TV, in
movies, in pop music, everywhere. Most importantly we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.

There doesnt seem to be an end to the use of money, get used to it.

Suprise Genius! We wouldn't be spending this money NOW, if Slick Willy Clinton hadn't GUTTED the Military and Intelliegence fields after taking office. :) We're reaping the fruits of LIBERAL mistakes of the early 90s. Don't blame Bush. While he's not very bright, he's NOT the cause of the problems. He inherited them and just is NOT the man to FIX them.
