Overlay <div> over <applet> ?

Question

I want to place a div tag over a java applet, how can I accomplish this??

I played with z-index, and the inline position, and didn't get anything

the applet always appears on top

I tried placing the applet within a

and that didn't wortk either

Applets, like Flash objects and the HTML form element seems to possess inifinite z-index. For Flash, I know you can set the wmode property to achieve the effect you want, see [first source], but I do not know if it is possible for applets.

z index is buggy at best in most browsers I have noticed. I don't know what you are trying to accomplish, but can you include the overlay as part of the java?

EDIT - related to your added details - I didn't mean include the applet in a div, I meant create a pop up/whatever that div is you are creating as part of the applet as opposed to being in HTML.
