Use a caulking gun. You can get them at a hardware store. Also, when you cut the end off of the tip, be sure not to cut off too much...

Cut the caulking tube at an angle, then be sure to apply steady pressure while moving the caulk along the path.

It depends what size caulk it is, and whether is is black or white caulk.
