Well........ did you know that her REAL name was Eileen Regina Edwards, but her mother remarried to a man named Jerry Twain. He adopted her which resulted in the changing of her name to Eileen Twain.
In 1987, tragedy struck and Sharon and Jerry were both killed in a car accident. The 21 year old Eileen became the executor of her parents' estate as well as the legal guardian of her 2 younger brothers and younger sister.
In 1991, Nashville entertainment lawyer, Dick Frank, came to see Eileen perform on the invitation of Mary Bailey, her friend and manager. Dick Frank invited Eileen to come to Nashville and record a demo tape.
Record execs did not like her name. They liked "Eileen" but requested that she drop "Twain." Instead, she retained her last name and offered to change her name to Shania, Ojibwa for "I'm on my way."
