I have had my Saturn for about 2 years now. I bought it off a guy who kept it in very good garage condition. However, for some reason I started to notice that the clear coat is chipping off and the sun is KILLING the silver color right off it! I know that saturns arent made from a metal. They are basically a composite of plastic and other fibers. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone as well. And if so, what have you done to fix it? Did you get a new paint job? And if you did, will this continue to happen because of the saturns body, or does it depend on the paint? Hey I know Saturns are cheapy, but for the price I paid and 30 thousand miles you just can't beat it. Plus it's just so girly. I took it to mechanics and the guy even let me test drive it Havent had any problems with it except this fricking paint. Anyone got ideas? And how bout some pricing for a paint job? I would really appreciate it...Thanks!

Saturn bodies aren't completely plastic. The hood, roof, and trunk lid are steel. On the L-series the rear quarter panels are steel as well.
The sun will damage any car, if it is not properly taken care of. If you don't regularly wax your car, eventually the clear coat will be exposed and get worn away. Once that paint breaks off like that, unfortunately the only way to repair it is to repaint the car.
I don't think the fact that Saturns have plastic panels makes the paint wear any worse. Like I said, any car's paint will peel if it's not taken care of.
If you do repaint your car, don't go to the cheapo places like Maaco. Your paint will come off again after a couple years. If you get a quality paint job, and take care of the car's paint, it should last for quite a while.

Ja man is a doof ball! I suggest that you take it back to the dealer where you bought it and ask for any maintenance bulletens that may refer to your problems from GM and see if they will cover it for you! Most GMs have a great paint job and so don't listen to what people who don't know say!
Also if you bought it used from a dealer it may be that he had a cheap job done to make it look better for resale! I wish you best of luck with the car!

the reason your clearcoat is peeling is because of the primer used was and is crap most G.M vehicles have this problem it can be repainted but you will probably need to take it down to the metal and completely bring it back up depending on where you take it you are looking at atleast a couple of thousand dollars for paint job

you need a new and better paint job. try a body shop in town.
