naturally, the answer is "the one that fits you the best."
I used to work in a very busy NYC area tennis pro shop and there is no substitute for going to a store and trying some on.
everyone's feet are different and have different needs.
ex: I like 3/4 shoes for extra ankle support & when I played on clay courts, I needed less cushion and more texture.
a general guide of some of the top names:
Wilson -- great! super durable
Prince -- softer than wilson and also durable
Reebok -- like cotton - not for a serious player
Nike -- always fine, good middle of the road
K-swiss -- lots of variety in models, the top models are like ski boots, stiff and solid

This site offers the best prices (at least that I've seen). www.erackets.com Go to their clearance or sale section and they have many nice tennis shoes that are for around 40 bucks and if you want the newly released shoes that usually cost around a 100 something, they have them for about 90 bucks.

The best tennis brands are kswiss and adiddas. The trainds and barricades are some of the best tennis sneakers by addidas. Also if you like addidas and kswiss there is a website called holabirdsports.com that has those sneakers for 60 and 70$ cheaper.

I love NIKE. Although it's a little more expensive than the other brands they are really good shoes and offer a lot of support. I used to wear ADDIDAS but they were really high so I twisted my ankle at a Super in Orlando. Besides they also gave me blisters where the tips of the shoes tongue is.

I personally use Adidas Barricade IV. It gives me better support. For wider shoes, go for New Balance.

I love reeboks. They are the most comfortable shoes in the world. Only thing is they melt on the court. K-Swiss last longer but are not as comfortable.

It depends on your feet,--pronated, normal etc. and your style of play (serve and volley, baseliner) I'd go to the following site and click on gear, they have reviews, they also have a forum.
Have fun.
