1) All Nascar fans are not rednecks! I am a city girl from NE Ohio who loves Nascar! I own a two story house, have all my teeth, am engaged to a man unrelated to me, am college educated and work full time as a bookkeeper and all that other BS you haters say rednecks/Nascar fans are! Most I know who are fans of Nascar have most of the same qualities as well, just different jobs!

2) Nascar is a sport and the drivers are athletes! Nascar is racing which is a motorSPORT! For the record they are not circles, they are ovals!

3) The drivers go through a lot of strain each week, they have to drive near 200 mph for 4 plus hours often more than once a week! There is a lot more to Nascar than riding around and around and there are road courses, too! Every single race involves timing, team work and of course speed! There is a lot of work put into the cars, to make them competitive!

If you answer arguing any comments, that's your opinion and we know what they say about opinions!

So, again the question is...why are you "haters" so concerned with the sport? Are you closet fans? If you are just after the points...well that says a whole lot, just getting points that are...well pointless!

All sports use fuel, how do you think football, basketball, baseball, etc. players get from state to state? For the race it's different!

Too many good answers, I think I'll have to send this one to voting! BTW just because I live in Ohio does not mean I am a redneck! I also want to point out this question went in the motorsports category so it is relevant! People are ignorant!

I agree with you 100% J LO. I love NASCAR, I am also a woman with teeth and an education, I have my own home and my own income. I am a race fan from Michigan, not ashamed but damn proud! NASCAR fan base is huge, white collar, blue collar and yes, even our beloved rednecks. That is what makes life interesting is the wide range of people it it.

My entire family is made up of racefans. However, I didn't become one till I was a bit older. I had to be begged, bribed and yes...paid! Finally I went, M.I.S was the place. I walked into this huge monster of a track, 1-1/2 mile oval, not many seats filled YET. As race time drew near the seats filled, the chatter started I was speechless at pure size and sounds of this place. I can still remember the driver introductions I will never forget the feeling I had as I watched the people stand to cheer on thier drivers as they went by. Then the pace lap, I saw the cars (they are so beautiful & powerful) I could feel the rumble beneath my feet, that rumble grew along with the sounds of the fans. The cars went green, 180,000 people on thier feet, the sound was deafening, the sound of the engines went through my whole body ....I cried! I know, what a girl but I did. I still get choked up when I go to races in person, just for the first green. It is very humbling to me. I have not missed a race in over 20 years now. I was hooked from the minute I drove into that parking lot.

t disturbes me greatly the close minded people there are out in this world, but Ignorance leads to hatred, plain and simple. Racing is a sport, the drivers & crew are athletes. They train just like all other athletes do. It's a joke when people don't believe that. There is just no way to really appreciate the speed and mere inches apart these poweful machines are unless you see them in person.

So my answer is that these people are just to ignorant to try and understand all that is involved in this wonderful sport we love soooo much! I don't really care what others say. I know we NASCAR fans are truly a breed all our own.

Jeez...I feel I should stand and sing the National Anthem now...LOL!!!

Hehe I think I love you. =P

I'm from central NY and have been a NASCAR fan all my life. I also have all of my teeth, am married to a man unrelated to me, and am a stay-at-home mom. And not a drinking problem in sight!

I just answered another question someone asked with this same tidbit of information: a sport is defined as "a physical and/or mentally competitive activity carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill, or some combination of the above." So boo to everyone that says NASCAR isn't a sport. -.-

"They are not circles, they're ovals" made me *LOL*!

As for the comments thecrunkness made, some people are just ignorant. None of those "reasons" hold water.

For the most part, I just ignore the ignorance people spew. Why they waste so much time on a sport they "hate" is beyond me. *rolls eyes*

The fact is, they only answer to get the two points. Most of their answers are, as you said, "pointless".

I do appreciate your truthfulness about all Nascar fans not being a redneck. (or what some people construe as redneck)
Your right ! We are just a group of people who enjoy the competitiveness of Nascar. Don't classify us just because there are a few people out there that gives us a bad reputation.

Hey, go to Lowe's Motorspeedway in Charlotte, most everyone that you see on the front stretch will be dressed in polo shirts and khaki pants. Redneck ? I don't think so.

You had your say, and you said it very well. You Go Girl !!!!

Because they have no lives. They hate the sport, yet when someone asks a question that has to do with NASCAR they are all over it & say it's not a sport. They also say it's EASY! HA! That's funny! Well, I'd like to know how many of them have driven a race car 180+ miles an hour for 500 miles! Then they would see how difficult it really is & how much skill is involved! JEEZ! :)

Ok... so they said you cant defend yourself because your are from OHIO, well I am from MIAMI, and um I LOVE NASCAR. it sux that people consider NASCAR a redneck sport because in fact it isnt. I am not a redneck I am hispanic, i go to school, i live in a house and date a man that not related to me like many have answered, so to answer your question, I THINK IT IGNORANT people. Have you notice that they answer and their answers dont even make sence. People here take it to the heart and try every way to bash at someone. Plain and simple i think its kinda childish. No one will ever know why these ignorant people even get involved with something they think is "stupid". But they will keep answering. They hated so much they love it.

thecrunkness has absolutely no idea what he/she is talking about. It takes a lot of training and conditioning to sit in a car for 5 hours and drive 180+. People that bash NASCAR questions really have no lives for themself so they try to hate on other peoples likes. NASCAR is also switching to an unleaded fuel so that knocks his other statement out of the water also. The best part of thecrunkness ran down his mamma's leg!

I think some people see it as as just good natured ribbing from fans of different forms of motor sports. Many NASCAR fans do the same thing any time F1 questions are asked. I personally find NASCAR boring and think that many other forms of racing are more entertaining; but to each his or her own.

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers.

I wonder the same thing myself. I had a NASCAR question one time and a guy answered with profanity and said how stupid it was. I wondered why he was reading the NASCAR questions if he wasn't a fan.
I couldn't agree with you more. I think NASCAR drivers have to be the most physically fit athletes around. They go through a lot.
I totally agree with everything you are saying!!

Yeah some Nascar fans are white trash, a lower derivitive of the redneck. I am white trash. I live in South Carolina, in a trailer, I have one tooth rotted out, and barely graduated high school. I am unemployed and drink daily. So sometimes, they are correct.

1)nascar is a waste of fuel
2)nascar is a waste of time
3)burning the high octane fuel polutes the earth
4)nascar fans generates too much trash during the race
5) just because its and oval doesnt make it more exciting than driving in circles
6) drving 200 miles an hour on a nearly straight track aint that challenging (the way the oval is slopped makes the track nearly straight)
7)i drive 6 hours straight about 2-3 times a month, does that make me an athelete?
