"Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it."--by George Santayana
Also, do you like the subject of history? Why or why not?

This is a true quote, because if we don't remember our past mistakes we are doom to repeat the same mistakes again.
I like history because I like knowing and understanding the past and how it helped shape our present time.

I totally agree with the quote. History was made for us to learn from and not ignore. So those who ignore history will fall into a lot of mistakes. Subject of history could be a little boring if taken as a subject in school or college, but a documentary on television would just be great!!

I think in many ways that quote could be considered "prophetic".

Yes, I do like the subject of history. I especially love to read American history, and I watch the History Channel a lot. Some of the most interesting points of history is how our country has evolved, and how in some ways the country has improved and advanced it's technology.

I also love the Profiles In Courage" that feature great Americans who have gone the extra mile or gave their lives to help improve humanity and equality. The Civil Rights Era, our country's willingness to become involved to try to help others in the world to fight oppression and atrocities and cruelties...well as an American, (I guess I am biased), but I love my country, and the rich history of this country is only the beginning of the story!

Just my opinion.

I have always liked that quote. It's so true...just like you learn from your own mistakes.........learn from others mistakes also via history. I was not a big history fan when I was in school and there are just certain things in history that I'm really interested in now.........JFK assassination, Civil rights, some Royalty history. I try to learn from the past but it's better to live in the present and prepare for the future!

Actually that's a common misquote, what he actually said was, "History has a way of repeating itself. Those who do not learn the lessons of the past are doomed to commit the same mistakes in the future".

But everyone always quotes him as saying your interpretation.

I agree with the quote. It seems like we're so determined not to repeat major events in history that we ignore the events that led up to them!

I loved History in school, but I had the greatest teacher who knew how to make it interesting.

History is one of my favorite subjects but I have no idea why! I guess I just find it interesting! This quote makes alot of sense when used to describe problems or bad things that have happened in the past.....if you don't learn from your past mistakes, what's to stop you from making them again them? What's happened has already happened and you can't change any aspect of it. Neither what lead up to it or the outcome. All you can do is move on and learn from it. Take that knowledge, and try your best to prevent whatever it was from happening again!
