I teach English as a second language and study linguistics. My general observations indicate an Irish (Southern) accent is popular with my students, they still understand what's being said but like the lilt of the speakers. If you wana listen to some and decide for yourself, you can listen to loads of different English dialects and accents on the BBC Word 4 Word 'Voices' website
www.bbc.co.uk/voices/
or the British Library website has an online archive.

Irish. (I'm biased, being from Ireland and all that...)
No matter where I travel to, people want to hear me speak.... and it is not for the intelligent or amusing content! I'm told they just love the accent.
Most Irish people cannot figure out where I'm from. I think it is a mix of South Dublin and the east midlands. Not too much of the 'real' Dublin accent and not too flat either.
If you look at a map of Ireland all the mountains are around the coastline and the midlands are flat (like a saucer). The accents of the midlands are pretty flat and drawn out and most of the accents around the coast are far more lilting (up and down - like the mountains!!) for example Kerry, Cork, Donegal or Antrim

Scottish is NOT easy to understand, I met some scottish lads on holiday this year and spent the entire conversation saying "ya'what??". Im English but I have a horrible accent because of where I am from, So I'd have to say Australian because I haven't really heard a bad one yet!.

I am an American, and I think England has an accent I absolutely adore. Their accent is beautiful and rich, and they use the language proper. Here in New York, almost everyone speaks slang, and I cannot stand it, for which they call it 'ghetto'.
