Freed the slaves, there as no income tax in those days. Land owners were taxed but being free didn't give them land. And the "40 acres and a mule" weren't taxed until developed.

Lincoln did not free the slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation only freed the slaves in states that were in rebellion. Which means it had no direct effect since he had no control over rebel states.

The ultimate effect of the northern war of aggression was that it made all Americans slaves to the almighty dollar.

Neither. With the emancipation proclimation, he freed all the slaves in the CONFEDERACY, where he had no power to. He did not free a single slave in reality. Where he could, he would not. Where he could not, he would. In fact, Lincoln supported slavery. Sorry to burst everyone's little bubbles, but its the truth. Also, for the record, I am not a confederate.

Um, he did the right thing. And, btw, the Republican party then was not the Republican party we know today. Lincoln was a humanitarian, and if we had been alive back then, whether we would have agreed with all of his policies or not- I believe he was a man of integrity, who cared about the direction of our country, which is more than we can say of any modern politicians.

HAH

That's a great point. I think personally he did want to free the slaves, any taxes he got in because of it, I'm sure he didn't complain about.

That's a great point, hah.
