I have Zone Alarm Security suite on my computer, which I understand is a firewall. Do I also need a seperate anti-virus and seperate spyware? The Zone alarm claims to have virus protection as well as spyware protection. Should I have all three to be safe or is the zone alarm enough? I just had a nasty virus removed from my computer and do not care for it to happen again.

ZoneAlarm security suite is all three. You have the firewall..antivirus..antispy. Any more is just overkill.

In my opinion, you don't need anti-virus / anti-spyware software on your computer at all. Anti-virus software fails to catch many viruses, especially new ones. It is not certain that anti-virus software would have kept you from getting the virus.

If you follow reasonable precautions, like downloading software and attachments only from reputable sources, your risk of getting a virus is minimal. The cost and inconvenience of anti-virus software, in my opinion, isn't worth it.

A firewall is something different. You absolutely should have one to prevent other people on the internet from attacking your computer. Windows XP has a built-in firewall that you can use, and most consumer routers have built-in firewalls. So you shouldn't need the Zone Alarm firewall - just turn on the Windows firewall.

If you must have anti-virus software, I believe that Norton is the least intrusive. Yahoo! has a decent spyware removal tool available through Yahoo! toolbar.

Your best defense against viruses is to place limits on what you download.

I would use all 3 because sometimes when you get a virus or spyware one of the programs will fix it and another will not, this way if you get one you can find which one corrects it.

I recommend windows defender beta 2 as it was the only one that would rid me of a spyware hijacker.

YES...u should have all the three services activated on ur computer. The firewall may stop someone from hacking ur computer but it will not protect ur computer from virus attacks and same goes for spy ware. Also make sure to scan any data before downloading or saving it on to ur computer.
