Teaching is a great career, regardless of the location. For some cities or districts, it may be difficult to get a job and you may have to be a substitute for a while.
If you love working with children, go into teaching.
Financially, you will be able to make it in CA, but you won't be living a lavish lifestyle. You will have to watch what you spend.
Remember that each district pays differently. Some have great benefits and are free, while other districts charge you for healthcare. Look into it.
Some districts have a process for being hired; some require multiple interviews and essays to be written.
Don't let this deter you from teaching.
Just know that money should not be the reason for entering the profession.

Now for an answer that is valuable and reliable:
Yes, teaching in California is wonderful! I graduated from a college in another state and moved to California in the 1980s because the pay was nearly double that in my home state. In 20 years of teaching I have NEVER taken work home to grade. I never do. I went to too many years of college to work for free. If the District wants me to grade papers they had better be paying me to do it. I always assign my students some work to do in class and then I grade their previous work--ON THE CLOCK.
I work ten months a year (summers if I choose to), I have never worked a weekend, I have never worked a holiday, I have never had to work at night, I've never missed an evening baseball game, or soccer game, or school play, of any of my sons due to work, I've never been "away on business" while my family enjoyed a special day without me. Teaching is a wonderful profession. I make over $80,000 a year and the benefits are limitless.
Take it from someone who REALLY knows what they are talking about. I give teaching 5 out of a possible 5 stars!

Before I answer this question, I'm gonna ask you if teaching is a career for you, and if it it then it shouldn't matter if it's in California, Maine, etc. The main thing is you have to love teaching and have to love kids or people in general. So I would say yes teaching is good in California because it's good wherever you go. Just remember there are good and bad schools in every state.

Teaching is good anywhere you go but the cost of living is extremely high in California, in Texas the district that I attended in San Antonio the teachers get a raise every year according to some teachers I know from that school district

I'm a teacher in California and I love it. So many think that there are too many earthquakes, the beaches will be a constant distraction and so on. It all depends on where you live and where you teach. Yes, we have earthquakes but most of them are too small to even feel. The beach isn't everywhere. Look at areas where you want to teach. Northern Cali. vs. Southern Cali. The city, or the suburb. I teach in the suburbs and in my eight years of teaching, my salary has gone up almost 20k. Also, keep in mind that some school districts have programs to assist teachers with housing....maybe it's because they want to keep teachers in the profession.

I taught for 3 years in elementary and high schools (overseas) and I hated it. You could try it for a year and if you don't love it, get out immediately. It won't get better. It is definitely a high stress job and yes, there are lots of extras you have to do besides just teaching in the regular school day. My mother has been a teacher for years, and she loves it. But it's not for everyone. And as far as I know, in California, your pay should be pretty good.

Teachers don't have the greatest paying jobs out there but they do make great money. Also, they get A LOT of incentives from the state or the area where they want to teach if they're in need of teachers. I say, GO FOR IT ONLY IF YOU THINK IT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY because you don't want to spend the rest of your life doing some job you hate.

If you love teaching than you should follow your bliss--most teachers do not go into for the money--as far as California goes it all depends on where you live--it is very expensive here and the pay is not equal to the cost of living in a lot of cities here in CA

Teaching is a great career to go into anywhere in the world. The question is, are you doing it for money or for the love of teaching?
On average, a teaching career is not a highly paid career, but it is indeed one of the most highly rewarding careers for people that love to teach, especially young children up to teens.
