I am not blind, but I saw the movie "Sneakers." It was about a gang of hackers who would test a bank's security. The character "Whistler" was blind and he read braille. He used a flat piece of metal that would raise bumps, translating the text into brail. He then used text only sites. Most of the Internet is still text based.

Dragon Naturally Speaking lets you speak to the computer and it will transcribe your speech as text. It doesn't read the text and speak it. There is software that does though, and blind people use that software.

Sure we can. I'm not totally blind, but I'm severely legally blind. There are a lot of different tools that can be used by the visually impaired, as far as computer use.

The most simple would be enhancing your font. It can get really big. The second way is to insall a Zoom text on the computer which allows you to split the computer screen. Anything you place the mouse over gets really really big.

Or, there are also programs that use voice prompts and the computer "talks" to you.

I've not read any of Jacques Lusseyrand's books.....but willl .....lol....look it up on line!

One of my best friends is blind and he uses the internet and other stuff on the computer all the time. He has a special software that helps him and speaks to him. Sometimes if I am around when he is on the computer, it gets really confusing to me. But he zooms through it. Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. But he can do just about anything with it. And as for your other question, i don't know if he's ever read what you are refering to.

That's one of the reasons that those little boxes with words(alts) appear over logos and buttons- they allow a speech sythesiser to speak what the icon or button actually does.

THere are also braille readers available for attachment to computers and there are lots of advantages to using text only browsers- lots of sighted people use them as well in preference to the graphical interfaces used.

Actually there is some software that allows you to "speak" commands to a computer. So they can use voice/streaming audio stuff. Obviously they can't read stuff online but the Intenet is not 100% text based.

all of the functions are in "speech". Dragon Naturally Speaking is a very popular software for the blind. We use it in real time court reporting, as well.
