You never really get over it. I lost my son 3 yrs ago, he was 6 months old. You just learn how to move on with your life. Death is a hard thing to cope with but it's away of life, even though it sucks to go through it. In the beginning it's he/she has been gone for a week, then two weeks then a month then two months then six months then a year....then you start to feel bad because your trying to pick up where you left off at but you don't want to feel like your forgetting your loved one. But your not forgetting your moving on. You have to! Of course you'll have your days when your driving and your just thinking of your loved one and you just start crying, thoughs days will happen and it's ok. It's good for you. But time is what will help. Just remember we never forget the ones we loose! Oh and the biggest thing that helped me was talking about it.
