Most of the Africans forced into the American slave trade came from the area around the Gulf of Guinea/Gold Coast region. The modern nations in that region include the Ivory Coast, Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

If you don't have any recent relatives from Africa, it is probably unlikely that you have East or North African ancestry. People from Northern or Eastern Africa are often lighter-skinned and often have distinctive eye shapes. But if you have these features, the reason is probably because of your European and Native American heritage.

Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia, Uganda, etc. but most American blacks have West African roots: Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal, Liberia, Gambia etc. If you have Southern relatives, it is almost certain, and the Cherokee part of your make-up suggests this. In your avatar, you have very dark skin, another West African sign. How far back can you trace your ancestry? Black North Africans, like Arabs, were often slave-traders, rarely slaves. I am having a very hard time tracing my German-Scottish-Indian roots, so I know it is a struggle. Even if you have money and pay others, to find your heritage. In the end, we are probably ALL related.

More than likely, Sierra Leone or Binini. Both are Northwest coastal states that have a long history of colonialism and slavery. However, most slaves came to the U.S. from the Caribbean nations who tended to sell off the slaves who caused too much trouble, or didn't work well, or were in general troublemakers. Since a lot of these island nations (Haiti, Jamaica, etc.) swapped hands a few times it could be any of these. The Cherokee probably is from a liason in Georgia where they mostly congregated until the 1830s.

Are you retarded? Why are you asking a bunch of random idiots??? I suggest you invest in some African and African-American history books. Start at the beginning with ancient Black Egypt and Nubia. Keep in mind that even if you descend from East Africans, the East Africans descend from ancient Egypt, Nubia, etc.

Sigh.

most of our ancestors were stolen from the west coast of Africa however, they were forced out of north Africa by the arab invasion thus you could have eastern african origins. having said that, with all those different ethnicities you must be fine!

You're lucky. African Americans might never find out where they originated from, or their real last name.

You could get DNA testing to narrow down what 'tribe' of people you are from.
