I have PCOS and the related symptoms of very irregular periods (sometimes only 4 a year!), facial hair and weight gain/hard to shift weight. An associated complication is insulin resistancy - don't panic it's not diabetes! It's what causes the weight issues. I fab UK site is www.verity.org which was set up by sufferers of the condition because it was quite unknown but very common. Check it out for literature and support. A couple of good books on dealing with PCOS are by Collette Harris.... can't remember the title but search it on Amazon and you should find it.

Don't believe all the horror stories about PCOS (it's common to think you will never conceive.... i have a 9 year old! Also that the condition 'robs you of your femininity'.... it can make you feel like that but as the condition comes more under control the symptoms go too. Until then encourage your daughter to have any excess hair waxed. Therapists see all sorts and having unwanted hair removed is liberating for any woman - PCOS or not!)

Losing the weight is the key to reducing the symptoms and the only way to lose weight with PCOS is via a calorie controlled diet using GI ideas (wholewheat everything) and exercise. Diet alone will not shift PCOS weight.

Please tell your daughter not to let it rule her life - her life can rule it and make it go away. Take care.

No, you could no longer get pregnant on a similar time as on the pill once you have the situation of PCOS, I actual have had it for some years so i comprehend and that i'm a nurse. firstly PCOS motives infertility , you do no longer ovulate or once you do ovulate your egg will become encapsulated with in a sac as a result the term polycystic. whether you have PCOS and have wide-unfold or unusual cycles, probability is you're no longer ovulating. Taking beginning administration does not strengthen ovulation, the objective is to offer up it. although, in case you choose to have a new child, talk on your well being care professional approximately Clomid. It does paintings for a lot of human beings, I actual have had 3 toddlers via clomid--you additionally can see and endocrinologist, who would prescribe metformin (glucophage) this drugs facilitates those with PCOS have wide-unfold classes and now and back even ovulate.
