I know people often fail parallel parking...

But i was curious what are other things that make you miss points usually? Or fail?

I live in a small town in michigan.. no freeway driving.. just driving around town and parking in an empty parking lot.

Thanks so much!

If you run a stop sign or break any law, you automatically fail. The one tricky spot when I took my test in Texas was that sidewalks crossing driveways were considered "stop signs" of sorts. If a person didn't stop behind the sidewalk before continuing, it was automatic failure. Ouch.

Parallel parking is tough, but most things you earn deductions on are not making smooth turns, not using turn signals, or not maintaining lane position. Good luck - I'll be rooting for you!

For me the test was a simple drive around the block, and then a parallel parking test; which I blew. I got a 75 on the test though and still passed.

The driving instructor can only see what you are doing so make it clear what you are doing. Don't just buckle the seat belt, lean over and check to make sure the instructor's belt is on. Before you take off adjust your mirrors, even if they are already adjusted make sure he sees you adjust them. When you come to a stop swivel your head so the instructor knows that you are looking both ways.

The test is simple and fast your biggest problem will be fear of failure. So take your time make sure the instructor sees what you are doing and practice your parallel parking before the test.

Keep your hands at 10 and 2. Check your mirrors and periodically check your rear view mirror. That will show the instructor that you are making yourself aware of what is behind you. Use your blinkers and don't forget to buckle up! Maybe he/she will give you extra points for burning out and doing donuts in the parking lot! No not really. Don't do that! Wait until you're more experienced. Good luck!

Main things to remember...hands at 10 and 2 o'clock. Go below the speed limit...you can never go to slow. When you get to a stop sign come to a complete stop. Pretend you are an overly cautious old lady and you should be fine!

I lost 5 points for not stopping at the stop signs, I went in front of them a little bit. Stop at the stop signs, and then you can pull forward if you can't see to pull out. Wear your seat belt, keep both hands on the wheel, I'm sure you will do fine! =)

Don't worry about parallel parking...Always make a complete stop...no California roll.

I can think of 2 things:

1) When you stop in front of a car, you must be able to see its rear wheels (don't stop too close)

2) Check your blind spot

Make sure you check your mirrors, frequently, and check your blind spot before changing lanes. Use your parking brake when you stop, and make sure your evaluator is wearing a seat belt before starting.
