Because the team needs good role players, which they didn't really have on the last US Men's team that went to the Olympics. Shane is also a very good, though underrated, defender, and he will do the dirty work on both ends of the floor. Plus, I'm sure it also helps that he's a former Duke player and his old coach is in charge.

Too many all-stars and not enough role players has been the demise of the USA basketball team in recent years. Coach k went for talented team players this time around.
