grr
Blair is planning on putting ten TEN in the UK, I think this is a load of crap becaus ethe only reason is because they are more profitable but his reason is "Renewable Energy depends too much in the weather" nuclear power stations damage the environment and are so dangerous. One in another country wiped out civilisation double the size of britain and we're having TEN!
What is wrong with renewable energy. Did you know that if you have windmills on your land the Government pays you £1,000,000 a year PER WINDMILL, and they sound lovely and people don't want them!!!

I think everyone, not just the UK, needs to build new nuclear power stations. The energy is, for the most part, clean (it doesn't pollute the air) and very safe. The only reason nuclear accidents like Chernobyl happened is because the idea was relatively new and the reactor was improperly cared for. If everything is maintained well and the safety procedures are followed, nuclear energy is a safe source of energy.

How come when other countries try to implement nuclear power they are told they cannot and yet the UK and USA can experiment and rebuild power stations when the need to? I say if the UK get new power stations they can no longer stand in the way of other countries trying to achieve the same thing

They should not build anymore nuclear power stations, until they can dispose of the nuclear waste safely, and not leave it to future generations to have to make safe, or be mutilated by. Better to play safe and phase them out, after all we can get what energy we require from nature and the sun.

It's a very good question with the current crisis in the Middle East. On the one hand, nuclear power is dangerous, and the waste products remain radioactive for thousands of years. On the other hand, it doesn't produce direct pollutants like coal and oil, and anything that leaves us less dependent on oil is a good thing at present. I would say yes, when new alternative energy technologies are developed.

Hmmm, it's a toughy. The main problem with nuclear fuel has always been: what do you do with the waste? Although a certain amount of reprocessing is possible, it still worries me what they would do with it all. And now there's the terrorist threat our benevolent government has been so good as to invite we don't want to be building targets.
I don't accept that the Irish Sea is the most polluted sea in the world though. Check this one out...

With coal, natural gas, and oil shortages, I think the whole world should be on nuclear energy. I was in the nuclear program in the US Navy, and it IS safe.

Phase them out definatly! Also, every new house built should have some form of energy saving or generating device, but a good one, like every house should have solar panels. Just my thought.
