I visit the dentist every 6 months and get a new one each time. On occasion, I may purchase an additional one for travel or to keep conveniently at a friend's house if I eat meals there often.

About three years ago.....my wife gave me an electric(re-chargable battery) type that really does a good job, I love it. You use less toothpaste also.
