IF SO, HOW DID YOU KNOW? I'VE KNOWN MANY LIBERALS, BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TELL THEIR POLITICS BY JUST LOOKING AT THEM.

AS A FORMER REPUBLICAN, AND NOW A CARD-CARRYING LIBERAL, I'VE MET AND BEFRIENDED MANY GROUPS OF PEOPLE, FROM MODERATES TO FAR LEFT LIBERALS LIKE MYSELF, BUT HAVE NEVER REALLY CARED ABOUT ANYONE ELSE'S POLITICS UNTIL VERY RECENTLY - WELL, UNTIL GWB BECAME KING.

ALL THE LIBERALS I HAVE MET HAVE BEEN KIND, WARM, LOVING, FUNNY, WELL-EDUCATED, NOT RICH (THERE HAVE BEEN THREE OR FOUR RICH ONES, BUT MOSTLY, THEY SHARE THEIR MONEY WITH THE POOR FAR TOO MUCH TO BECOME REALLY WEALTHY), AND THEY ARE WELL-TRAVELED AND ARE OPEN-MINDED.

I FOUND THAT LIBERALS ARE MY IDEA OF THE IDEAL PERSON, IN ALMOST EVERY EXPERIENCE.

HATE-MONGERS ARE NOT MY CUPPA TEA. I DISLIKE PEOPLE WHO PEDDLE HATE, WHO DISLIKE ME JUST BECAUSE I'M NOT ASHAMED TO BE A DEMOCRAT, PROGRESSIVE, LIBERAL, WOMAN, AND OVER 30.

IF YOU CAN'T BE CIVIL WITH YOUR ANSWERS, ANSWER ANYWAY. THAT TELLS A LOT.

I see a liberal every day--each time I look in the mirror. I know one rich one--my father--but he is only liberal on social issues, not economic ones. Two I knew, husband and wife, were each Chairmen of the Democratic Party in our county for a combined 30 years. They could have been quite wealthy, but they incorporated their farm and made each of their 5 children and each of their grandchildren equal partners. He wore coveralls and she wore housedresses to the day they died, but they each had an affect on everyone they met as kind, caring people.

I worked in a bookstore once, and I saw someone that I immediately recognized as a liberal. I drew this inference from the following clues:

1. The guy had a scraggly beard.
2. He was wearing a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches, over a black t-shirt.
3. He was wearing a "Chairman Mao" type cap...
4...with a Red Star and a picture of Lenin pinned to it.
5. He had ducked under the yellow tape that was put up around the bookshelves (we were in the process of restocking), and seemed to think this was okay because he had been a professor of social justice for 10 years, like that was some kind of all-access pass to the Universe or something.

I guess technically he may not apply since he was a Communist. Still, I had to share the story since that was the most notable time I've ever pinned someone's politics from their appearance.

No, you can't tell a person's political affiliation just by looking at them. I'm glad you've met a lot of nice people. Personally, I've met a lot of hate mongers on both sides of the fence. For example, it's not really polite to say you care about other people's politics now that GWB is king. He's not a king and you've already implied that you disrespect thousand of people you've never met. It just seems ridiculous to me.

Yes. My mom's boyfriend is a ultra-liberal. You can tell it a mile away. Although I don't agree with much of his viewpoints, he is very articulate and non-obtuse to the non-liberal viewpoints.

I don't think civility has much to do with political viewpoints. There are non-civil liberals who think their viewpoint is paramount (Jessie Jackson comes to mind), and well as non-civil conservatives (the entire Fox News Network comes to mind) who uses their opposition as a point for their hatred instead of looking past their narrow political and social views.

So what you are saying is that republicans are uneducated, dress or look a certain way to be noticeable in any venue? They hate, never give to the poor, are mean spirited, non-caring? They never leave home and are closed minded? What a loving and open minded and warm thoughtful question you posted. Thanks.

sorry to hear that you've turned to the dark side of the force. oh well, there's still time for you to wise up.

but i'm not sure what a person's personality has to do with their political afiliation as you are trying to demonstrate.

in answer to your question, yes, i've known libs when they've crossed my path. for example: ratty-haired, tie-dye wearing foul-mouthed punk was NOT a republican. how do i know for sure? he was on his way to a raly carrying some sort with an anti-bush sign.

their kind is not hard to spot.

Liberals have a wider view of the world, have more morals and lead happier lives because we worry about other people. WE're more humanitarian, educated, and well-off.

optimistic. i think of your spelling and absence of areas communicate for itself. Plutocracy? heavily? we are for capitalism, the place every person could make it. Socialism is liberal with the aid of fact they decide for all and sundry to be the comparable. it is so humorous considering liberals decide for to "show" themselves, yet they do no longer decide for human beings to prevail, and in the event that they do, tax the hell out of them! Edit- "Your no longer a Liberal if your no longer inclusively minded.Fascism is state subsidized exclusion. Its a absolute oxymoron to assert Liberal fascism" definite, a good style of issues liberals do is hypocritical.

Who hasn't met a liberal? I realize they are becoming an endangered species but we all know those few that still discount reality and patriotism.
