hi,
sedum is one of the easiest plants to seperate.i do most of my splitting in the spring.i use a flat edging shovel and drive it down thru the plant where i want to split.i then transplant into a prepared area of manure ,peatmoss, and topsoil.this has yet to fail.happy gardening

I like the bucket answer and will try that next time. Personally, I just take a shovel, cut them down the middle, and replant one half. Fill in the opening (left with the other half) with top soil or soil/sand mix. Water both.

Just dig them up and seperate them with a shovel, cuttung through the roots and give them plenty water after you replant them because its so hot this time of year they could go into shock. Also di it in the late afternoon after it cools down some.
